Midwife Staff with Uplifting Women’s Wellness Uplifting Women’s Wellness is the first of many community centers across the United States. We have been working on a large-scale maternity care system reform that community-based midwifery and our greater healthcare system will work more integrally with each other so midwifery can become mainstream again. There are many aspects of our larger project to break down barriers that exist for midwifery to thrive. We are opening a midwifery school, creating a nationwide physician collaboration network, birth center coalition of national resources like educational trainers, accountants, billers, lawyers, marketers, business consultants, and financial planners. We will be completely changing our maternity care system and looking for great people to join our mission and vision. Uplifting Women’s Wellness is a brand-new clinic that will have services from many different alternative service lines including midwifery, chiropractics, acupuncture, massage therapy, infusion therapies, lactation consultants, doulas, educators, and pelvic floor therapists. The adjacent freestanding birth center is almost finished with construction and will start providing births to the area in January 2024. We will be the first accredited birth center in state of Michigan with this site closely working with our midwifery school to train the next generation of midwives for our future centers. Summary Oversees women’s health care including full scope maternity care at freestanding birthing center, women’s health clinic, newborn, and lactation services at Uplifting Women’s Wellness (UWW) in accordance with the guidelines of the American College of Nurse-Midwives, North American Registry of Midwives, the Commission for the Accreditation of Birth Centers, American College of Obstetricians and Gynegologists, and Michigan state regulations. Job Classification Uplifting Women’s Wellness, alternative friendly women’s health clinic where autonomous midwives have privileges at adjacent freestanding birth center, Farmington Birth Center, in Farmington, Michigan is looking for a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) or Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) to join our team that has a STRONG background and passion for community based midwifery. This position works in a collaborative manner with other healthcare providers in a clinical environment and delivers at the women’s health clinic and birth center. We strive to provide comprehensive alternative friendly midwifery care to women in all stages of women’s health care needs including preconception, pregnancy, and beyond. The ideal candidate will be of a compassionate nature who enjoys working with women from diverse backgrounds from teenage years through menopause. Requires excellent communication skills and the ability to listen to clients with empathy and understanding. Our independent midwives will collaborate as needed with local hospitals and healthcare providers to provide optimal health outcomes. Qualifications Board Certification by professional board (AMBC or NARM certification) MI APRN or CPM (NP, CNM, LM, etc) license Preference two years of experience to practice in community setting preferred —including out-of-hospital / birth center experience (will take new graduates or hospital-based midwives if strong experience background and passion towards physiological midwifery services) Knowledge. Skills, and Abilities Competency in the practice of midwifery within the limits of the specialty Acceptance of principles of community health care, including but not limited to: Commitment to practices of health promotion and disease prevention Commitment to client and midwifery autonomy Willing to work on the tasks that are outside the job description in order to accomplish the goals of UWW Respects co-workers and treats them with courtesy and professionalism Advocates for full practice authority for advanced practice nurses and midwives at the local, state, and national levels Advocates increasing access to freestanding birth center care until all low-risk pregnant people who desire this model of care have access to Essential Functions Clinical Provide full scope midwifery services in accordance within providers’ job descriptions and area of expertise Maintains a regular clinical schedule and provides clinical care to clients within scope of practice Provides birth center coverage as needed in order to maintain client’s safety Maintain dedication to serving all clients with a helpful, friendly and respectful attitude embodied in the philosophy that “the client comes first.” Protocols Assist with development and revision of Clinical Practice Guidelines within areas of responsibility and offering expertise to other service lines within the organization as needed annually Assist with initial accreditation and maintenance compliance with the Commission for the Accreditation of Birth Centers (CABC) indicators Assist with quality protocol implementation measures of the new practice Education Provide a supportive environment that is conducive to a positive educational experience for midwifery, nursing, and medical students Oversee client education—including revision of documents listing local educational resources for clients regularly Seek out opportunities to participate in the education of the midwifery and medical community Cultivate an environment of ongoing professional learning, including continuing education for clinical staff to assure compliance with licensing requirements and evidence-based, up-to-date care within area of responsibility. In partnership with the billing staff ensure ongoing, annual and as needed coding and billing training of all clinical staff within areas of responsibility Quality Assurance Assist with develop and implement a quality assurance program with annual compilation of practice statistics within areas of responsibility Assist with establishing appropriate systems to assure the quality of client care through chart review, participation in statewide peer review and utilization of quality management principles Participate in sentinel event review process and root cause analysis as outlined in the CABC indicators Participate in the continual improvement of collaboration with the surrounding hospitals and providers Serve as a resource to the birth center and women’s health clinic by participating in and providing contemporary in-service education that facilitates increased teamwork and maintains a comprehensive alternative approach to the delivery of healthcare services Development and Planning Plan and participate in activities designed to enhance public awareness of UWW Participate in selected local, state, and national organizations that affect advanced practice nursing and midwifery practice (i.e., ACNM, NARM, NCACNM, and AABC) Liaison Assist in establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with the primary care director, collaborating physician, other consultants and additional care providers Participate in client group meetings as necessary Serve as consultant to outside agencies regarding advanced practice nursing, midwifery, and birth centers All UWW Employees are expected to adhere to the following organizational values: Integrity: Our decisions, actions, and behaviors are based on honesty, trust, fairness, and the highest ethical standards.
